Episode 075: Polyamory…Is it a Gay Thing or a Human Experience – Saul of Hearts

Polyamory…is it a new sexual revolution? A fad? A revolt against societal norms? A slap in the face of the heteronormative? Or is it simply a way of being in relationship with yourself and others. Depending on whom you speak to, the answer could be yes, no, or all of the above. Yet the real answer is Polyamory is the practice of, or desire for, intimate relationships involving more than two people, with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved.

Now some of you listening may be scratching your head wondering, “How is this different from Polygamy?” And, where does this cross the sexual orientation boundaries of gay, straight, and bi-sexual, transgender? Truth is, Polyamory covers various forms of multiple relationships, or forms of sexual or romantic relationships that are not sexually or emotionally exclusive. In fact, people who identify as polyamorous typically reject the view that sexual and relational exclusivity are necessary for deep, committed, long-term loving relationships.

To help us sort out this ground breaking way of being sexually and emotionally involved with one another as humans is a Portland resident, and Polyamory blogger at multi.love, Saul of Hearts.
